Wichita State joining the AAC
If you follow me on Twitter (@_JT_Smith) around NCAA Tournament time I went on a small rant about the American Athletic Conference needs to be proactive and try to add teams like Wichita State, Middle Tennessee and Dayton for basketball at least to help make the conference more legitimate in the overall climate of college basketball. Some thought I was crazy when I said they needed to be proactive and Friday the AAC heard my words, made good to them and added Wichita State (Shockers) to the conference for every sports except football(It wasn’t me, but I’ll take credit).
Wichita State being added to the AAC automatically brings more credibility to the conference and that is something that needed to be achieved. The AAC only had two teams make the NCAA Tournament out of 11 and two made the NIT, but now they will have a stronger conference schedule, maybe more bids will come out of the AAC.
Mick Cronin likes the move per ESPN article.
Added Cincinnati basketball coach Mick Cronin: “Great for our league. I love to see a move for basketball reasons.”
The Shockers will start AAC play in the 2017-18 season.
