Thundering Herd handle Bearcats at Nippert Stadium, 38-21

The Cincinnati Bearcats welcomed Marshall Thundering Herd into Nippert Stadium on a lovely Saturday evening. The Bearcats came in the game 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the AAC and the Thundering Herd at 2-1 overall.

In the first 90 seconds of the game both teams fumbled, first being Marshall’s Tyler King recovered by Perry Young and the second by Hayden Moore recovered by Frankie Hernandez. After recovering the early fumble not much else went right for the home team. Down 24-0 at the half, the offense only mustarded up 84 total yards and only had the ball 5:41 in the first two quarters. Guys that isn’t a typo, Marshall quarterback Chase Litton was 20-for- 29 passing, 202 yards and 3 touchdowns during the first thirty minutes.

In the second half it wasn’t much better, but they did get on the board three touchdowns (two rushing and one receiving) a 2 yard run by Gerrid Doaks, a 27 yard run by Mike Warren (first of his career) and a 18 yard reception by Javan Hawes(first of his career). Besides the score, they lost junior wide receiver Khalil Lewis with what looked to be a leg injury. Mike Boone returned in limited action.

At the end of the day Marshall only outgained Cincinnati 366-349, but that is misleading if you watched the game. Losing the turnover battle 3-1 didn’t help the struggling home team as Marshall scored 21 points off of those mishaps.

Cincinnati is now 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the AAC.

UC will welcome UCF into Nippert Stadium on Saturday for a big AAC battle. The game will kick off at 8 pm.

Managing Editor of Bearcat Insider, I’ve been on the BCI team the last couple of years. I made the final four in the Biggest Big East Fan contest in 2011, I covered UC also on Cincy on the Prowl. I’m just a lefty trying to get buckets in this game called life Van Exel style.
