We look at under the radar offensive lineman Nathan Grey, a member of the Class of 2018 out of Kettering (Ohio) Alter High School.

PROSPECT: Nathan Grey
POSITION HS: Offensive Tackle – PROJECTS: Guard/Center
HOMETOWN: Centerville, Ohio
HIGH SCHOOL: Kettering Archbishop Alter High School
HT: 6-3  / WT: 270

This fall is important to Kettering (Ohio) Alter senior offensive lineman Nathan Grey as he looks to make up for lost time from his junior season when he missed major time fighting an injury.  Starting back in the winter, Grey worked hard to get in better physical shape having cut down his 6-foot-3 frame down to 270-pounds after being close to the 290-pound range with some bad weight.  The results show up on the field as Grey shows the ability to pull, get to second level defenders and bend better.

Projected as a guard/center prospect, Grey brings high intelligence to the field as he’s a great student who scored a 30 on the ACT to go with an extremely high-grade point average.  This makes him a great candidate for a center spot as he’ll have no problem communicating line calls, something often not thought about when breaking down a prospect.

The work done by Grey in the weight room during the past winter, spring and summer along with working on his diet and academic success shows he’s grasped the needed discipline to play at the college level.

As for his work on the field, Grey is still raw and some of that is due to him playing in a wishbone offensive system that at times still uses flipper blocking instead of hands.  Grey has worked on technique the past year during the offseason and shown great improvement during the summer camp season and early this season.

Grey has improved his initial punch and getting more explosiveness out of his hips.  There is still work needed in this area.  At times, Grey get his upper body out in front of his hips causing not only a lack of pack to his punch, but also allows for him to lose balance.  However, when he’s got technique working right, he shows the ability to engage and drive block a defender down the field.

Grey currently holds an offer from Ohio Dominican University and is hearing from several programs with high academic requirements. We expect more programs to have interest as he continues to build a solid film library from this season.

Pros: Intelligence, run blocking ability, size.

Cons: Needs to continue adding strength and good physical bulk along with improving his core.
