Scouting Report: Jake Tewart
We’ve watched Lebanon, Ohio senior athlete Jake Tewart the past two seasons. After missing most of summer camps with a hamstring injury, Tewart is making up for the lost time with a super senior season.
PROSPECT: Jake Tewart
POSITION HS: Cornerback/Slot Receiver/Kick Returner / PROJECTS: Safety/Kick Returner
HOMETOWN: Lebanon, Ohio
HIGH SCHOOL: Lebanon
HT: 6-0 / WT: 180 lbs.
As a junior the question surrounding Jake Tewart was if he’d play on the offensive side of the ball or become a member of the defense. This season, Tewart is showing our early evaluation of defense might be his best bet at the college level.
However, that should not take away from what Tewart can do with the ball in his hands as a kick returner. This season, Tewart has nine kickoff returns for 250 yards, including an 88-yard touchdown against Beavercreek in Week Four.
On defense, Tewart shows he’s not afraid to give up his body in supporting the run and again has used his eye-hand coordination to pull down two interceptions this season. A solid tackler, Tewart may not run the forty as fast as others, but makes up for it with solid closing quickness and fundamentals to be in position to make a stop. Shows quick feet and a solid football IQ.
Projection at the next level has Tewart as a safety and we project him as a player who can play at the Division II or NAIA level. However, someone in the FCS division could also give a late look and give him a chance with the kind of season he’s put together so far.
Pros: Quickness, return ability, toughness, tackling ability, hands
Cons: Size/strength, high end speed
