No. 1 seed Cincinnati moves past No. 9 seed SMU 61-51 in the AAC Quarterfinals
The Bearcats game into the game with a No. 1 seed in the conference against SMU. It has been a great week for this program with all the awards with the latest being head coach Mick Cronin being voted Coach of the Year by Sporting News.
It was a weird game overall for the Bearcats maybe the Florida weather had something to do with it, but Jacob Evans and Jarron Cumberland finished with two points total. No, that isn’t a typo, but they also combined for 11 assists and only committed three turnovers (8 Cumberland/3 Evans). It is weird seeing both of them combine for 1-of-8 shooting from the field. Tre Scott and Nysier Brooks picked up the slack chipping in with a combined 13 points ( 7 Scott/6 Brooks). It is good to see bench players have a quality showing because you never know whose number may need to be call in the NCAA Tournament. Gary Clark notched his 28th career double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kyle Washington led the team in scoring with 15 points and Cane Broome had another good game with 13 points.
The first half was tight, but nice serge by the Bearcats in the second half wore down the tough Mustangs. They just didn’t have the fire power because of major injuries to key players Shake Milton and Jarrey Foster (to name a few) to push this talented team to the brink.
How sitting at 28-4 overall they will face the winner of Tulsa/Memphis tomorrow at 1 pm on CBS.
