Bearcats ride Green Wave to 17-16 win
The Cincinnati Bearcats traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to face the Tulane Green Wave. The Bearcats needed some down south love to get back on the winning side of things, it had been over a month and five games since the Bearcats had tasted victory, but this week things changed as they eked out a 17-16 against the Green Wave.
Everyone that follows this program knows they need to win out to become bowl eligible this season, but they have to take it one game at a time to accomplish this goal and this week was a step in the right direction.
The offense had over 400 total yards today led by running back Gerrid Doaks who toted the rock for 147 yards on 17 carries with a long of 57 yards. Quarterback Hayden Moore was 18-for-27 passing for 248 yards and 1 touchdown and zero turnovers. Running back Mike Boone had a good dual threat game with 20 yards running, 1 touchdown and 34 yards receiving on 4 receptions.
The defense held Tulane under 350 total yards. Quarterback Jonathan Banks was the star for Tulane as he had 196 yards passing and 75 yards rushing and 1 touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a Cincinnati win. Sophomore linebacker Perry Young had a nice game with 10 tackles and 3 tackles for loss. Also, senior cornerback Linden Stephens helped this unit grab a precious takeaway with his second interception of the season, getting picks the last two games for the Bearcats.
Now the Bearcats are 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the AAC (first win in conference of this season).
They have a game on Friday against Temple with a short week the Bearcats, but now they must keep pushing and keep bowl eligibility alive.
